The RS Kart team experienced mixed results at round two of the VKC club championship, held in Vereeniging on Saturday 8 August 2020.
Luke Hill led the team’s charge and had a good weekend in Mini Rok. He qualified in fifth place, just a four tenths of a second behind the pole sitter. Luke put in a strong first race performance, crossing the finish line in second place and setting the fastest lap of the race. He took third in race two, saving his best for last by winning the final heat of the day. Luke finished first in the overall standings.
Newcomer to the team, Caleb Cotterell, put in a solid performance in Mini Rok. He qualified on the fourth row of the grid and finished the first race in ninth place. Caleb had a tough second heat finishing down in 14th. He recovered well in the final race to cross the finish line in 12th place. Caleb ended the day 13th overall and will be looking forward to improving at the next event.
Carlo Olivier had fantastic KZ2 qualifying session, putting himself on the front row of the grid, missing out on pole by just 4 hundredths of a second. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from here with Carlo experiencing engine difficulties during the first heat. The technical gremlin proved fatal and put an end to his weekend. Although the results weren’t as he would have wanted, Carlo will find solace in the fact that this was only a club event and not a regional.
The team showed tremendous pace this weekend and will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with as they continue to grow from strength to strength.
