The three driver IPK team, left the competition seeing red, following some solid results at the first round of the 2020 Northern Regions Rok Cup, held at Zwarkops Raceway on Saturday 22 February.
Luke Hill met all of the day’s challenges with an intense focus. After qualifying his Mini Rok in 10th place, the young Steelform driver attacked the track in race one to take the flag in 5th. His progress amongst the older drivers may have caught a few people off guard as he launched across the finish line in 4th place in both remaining heats. The confidence boosting results earned Luke 4th overall for the day and 1st in the under 10 sub division.
Ayden Hall put in a strong performance in OKJ. He qualified in 14th, but his determination saw him improve to 10th place in the first race. Ayden really shone in the second heat, where he was able to keep out of trouble and avoid crashes in front of him, to bring his IPK home in a steady 5th position. Unfortunately, Ayden’s day didn’t end on a high note when an on track incident took him out of the final race. This dropped Ayden to 8th in the overall standings.
Carlo Oliver was in the thick of the action in the new KZ2 class, keeping company with more than one SA champion. A 12th place grid slot wasn’t ideal, but Carlo made short work of improving on this position. In a determined drive, Carlo raced to an impressive 7th place finish. He took 13th in heat two and survived the very wet, final heat claiming a solid 11th place. Carlos ended the day 9th overall.
The day was filled with great racing and team building pride.
