RS Kart

The RS Kart South Africa team earned seven race podiums at the third round of the Northern Regions Rotax Max Championship held at Zwartkops on 3 October 2020.

Mattao Mason had a fantastic weekend. The Bambino driver qualified in third position and after a hard fought first race, crossed the finish line in second place. Mattao finished third in heat two and heat three, setting the fastest lap of the race in the latter. He ended the day on a high note, taking the flag second, with another fastest lap. Mattao finished third in the overall standings.

Maddox Mason had a slower start to the day than big brother Mattao, but once he got going, there was no stopping him. He qualified seventh and wasted no time making up ground in the first race. After an action packed race, he crossed the line fifth. Maddox didn’t have things his own way in heat two, finishing down in ninth place. He ended race three in seventh place, but saved the best for last when he earned a podium finish in the final heat. Maddox ended the day fourth overall.

Ewan Venter put in a consistent performance, qualifying eighth and holding this position in both heat one and two. He raced hard, learning with every lap. Ewan finished heat three in ninth place and took the chequered flag tenth in the final heat. His consistency saw him finish ninth in the overall standings.

Micro Max:

Luke Hill had a tough weekend, but his determination eventually lead to success. The Mirco Max driver qualified third and ended the first race in fourth place. Luke dropped down to fifth in heat two and three, battling for pace. The team made numerous set-up changes which lead to Luke being almost a second a lap faster in the final heat than he had been all weekend. Putting this pace into action, Luke took an incredible second place finish in the final heat. Luke ended the weekend third overall, in his Micro Max debut.

Senior Max:

Although the weekend started off well for Josh le Roux, it didn’t end on a high note. Josh qualified second and took a podium in the first heat. He finished fourth in heat two, but nursed his ailing kart home and ultimately into retirement.

The RS Kart team can be proud of their results this weekend and can now boast that they race with a World Championship winning brand. A massive congratulations to IPK!
